PREFACE

This compilation of the consumer protection laws of all fifty states and the

District of Columbia is a unique and powerful tool for bothfrequent consumer

protection law practitioners and those who occasionally practice in the area. We

do not believe there is another publication in the United States that summarizes the

consumer protection law of each state in which nearly every chapter is written by

attorneys who practice in that state. Given that both substantive an d procedural law

differ greatly among the states, the insight of local practitioners will be of great

benefit to the reader.

We were fortunate to have more than ninetyvolunteer contributors to this

publication. The contributers have diverse experiences, and include government

attorneys, attorneys primarily representing businesses, and attorneys who

primarily represent plaintiffs. Some contributors have practiced in two or all three

of those groups. Readers will be unable to identify the current practice of the

contributors, who were rigorous in their objectivity. We are indebted to those
