The Portuguese Parliament is apparently considering taxing purchases of storage devices in an attempt to protect copyright holders and "bring old legislation into the 21st century" If passed, consumers would pay an extra 0.2 [euro] per gigabyte (about 21 [euro] or $26 U.S.) in tax when purchasing external hard drives, according to TechEYE.net.

USB drives and memory cards would also be taxed--at six cents per gigabyte. Mobile phones and similar storage devices...
