Poll shows S.C. residents want tax reform.

A statewide poll conducted by the S.C. Chamber of Commerce revealed more than two out of three state residents support comprehensive tax reform. The poll also found South Carolinians think the state should intervene in underperforming school districts.

The poll of 500 South Carolina registered voters was conducted in August, according to a news release from the chamber of commerce.

Poll results show 71% of voters support a legislative overhaul of the state's tax code to simplify it, with 67% of voters wanting legislative tax reform for individuals and 55% supporting tax reform for businesses.

"South Carolina voters believe the time has come to modernize our tax system. They want it to be simpler and more competitive," said Ted Pitts, S.C. Chamber president and CEO. "It's time for lawmakers to move beyond talk and pass a comprehensive reform bill this legislative session."
