Here's a new variation on the photo ID for check transactions: It scans a customer's photo identification card into computer memory, encrypts it and stores it in the system. When a customer returns to the same point of sale, the computer calls up his image so the retailer can compare it with the ID on file.

The system employs Hypercom's ICE 7000CE color touch-screen hardware and the Identico Systems True ID software. The companies envision that the system will be helpful to anyone who accepts checks for payment.
