Steven D. Gray has assumed the presidency of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, an international organization dedicated to improving the health care of children with ear, nose and throat problems. Gray is a professor of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at the University of Utah School of Med cine. He holds the C. Charles Hetzel Jr. M.D. and Alice Barker Hetzel Presidential Endowed Chair in Otolarypgology and is the assistant medical director of Primary Children's Medical Center. He is also the principal investigator for a National Institutes of Health-funded project to grow vocal folds in the laboratory for human transplantation.

Myriad Genetics Inc. has named Edward A. Swabb the senior vice president of development of its Myri d Pharmaceuticals subsidiary Swabb comes to Myriad after a 15-year stint at Pharmacia Corp. of New Jersey where he built a strong background in guiding drugs through clinical trials. Swabb has also worked at E.R. Squibb & Sons in the United Kingdom directing clinical studies, and has served as a captain in the U.S. Army.

Bill Landels, executive vice president of PacifiCorp, has been appointed the new chairman of the board of The Economic Development Corporation of Utah, a nonprofit organization promoting managed economic development in Utah. Landels is the ranking executive for PacifiCorp's operations in Utah and has held executive posts in two United Kingdom power companies.

SwitchPoint Networks Inc., a provider of last-mile residential and small business networking, has hired William S. Beans Jr. as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Beans comes from ICG Communications of Colorado where he served as president and COO. He has held executive positions at AT&T, Teleport Communications Group of California and Metropolitan Fiber Systems of Florida.

Governor Leavitt has appointed Wes Curtis as state planning coordinator. He will advise the governor on state, regional and local planning matters relating to public improvements and land use. Curtis has directed the Utah Rural Partnership office since 1997 and has served with many organizations including Utah Small Cities Inc. and the Coalition for Utah's Future.
