Planning for tomorrow.

During a recent visit to DWS Printing in Deer Park, NY, USA, Tom Staib, president and fourth-generation owner, made a point that really resonated with me. "My job is to figure out where we are today and where we are going tomorrow," he said. "You can't sit still in this industry, because the technology is changing so much that you need to keep abreast of what's going on in the world of label printing."

With technology advancing at a rapid pace throughout all walks of life, label converters must evolve or risk getting left behind. Automation, robotics, digital printing, smart labeling and a host of other trends are permeating the marketplace, giving brands and consumers an experience like never before. The technology goes beyond the unknown, too. Printing industry staples like flexo presses, plates, inks, etc. are getting upgrades to accommodate the next generation of labels--and label printers. With a wave of change coming, converters and suppliers alike cannot afford to rest on their laurels.
