International tax planning, audits & appeals will be addressed at two seminars in 2010.

Tax Executives Institute will hold its first seminar in 2010 on international tax planning and compliance issues, and its second one on both IRS audits and appeals and foreign audits, according to Paul O'Connor, chair of TEI's Continuing Education Committee. The international tax program will be held February 11-12, 2010, in Orlando, and the Institute's annual tax controversy program is scheduled for May 18-20, 2010, in Chicago.

International Tax Planning and Compliance Issues

The international tax seminar, Planning for Today, Preparing for Tomorrow: International Tax Planning & Compliance in a Down Economy, will cover a wide range of topics that are germane in today's economy, Mr. O'Connor stated. The program will open with a session on identifying permanent establishment risks and then move quickly into utilizing international losses. In the afternoon, registrants will receive an update tax issues relating to reducing legal entities and restructuring internal debt. The day will finish with a discussion of repatriation strategies, focusing specifically on the effects of U.S. tax planning in jurisdictions such as the European Union, India, China, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The second day of the program will feature discussions on currency swings and international tax compliance issues such as Tier 1 issues and penalties. Preparing for international tax reform will be next with an emphasis on practical strategies for companies to adopt now for the changes ahead. The seminar will conclude with a panel discussion on how--and when--to revisit a company's transfer pricing strategies.

"We are especially pleased that Treasury's new International Tax Counsel, Manal Corwin, will be our luncheon speaker on the first day," Mr. O'Connor stated. "Ms. Corwin is an experienced international tax expert and an excellent speaker." For lunch on the second day, he added, registrants will hear from former Treasury Assistant Secretary Eric Solomon on how to communicate the effects of various tax reform proposals to upper management. The seminar will be held at the Hyatt Orlando Airport Hotel in Orlando, Florida. To register, visit TEI at www.te.org.
