Contrary to statements made in "Eco-terrorists take toll" (February issue), People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) does not support violence of any sort and has never committed of funded any violent acts, even while countering the phenomenal violence committed against animals in the food, leather and fur, entertainment, and experimentation industries.

I urge your reporters to visit just one of the cruel places PETA has exposed--a slaughterhouse where cattle have their hoofs cut off while still alive, for example, of a wretched fur farm where a fox sits with his leg bone exposed and infected, or a laboratory like the University of North Carolina, where the researcher cuts conscious animal's heads off with scissors. After witnessing this, it's easy to see that PETA is for progress. We are out in our community, helping people adopt humane solutions to problems with geese, beavers and other wildlife who have nowhere...
