As temperatures rise across the nation, doctors from Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group, Brooklyn, N.Y., are warning of the dangers that hot weather can have on pets.

According to Brett Levitzke, founder and medical director of VERG, every dog--regardless of physical fitness, age, size, or breed--can suffer from heat-related illness. Leaving pets outside for long periods of time, engaging in strenuous physical activity, or locking them in a hot car all can be severely detrimental during steamy days. It is critical to make sure pets always have access to plenty of water.
