Alaska's People, a nonprofit division of Cook Inlet Tribal Council, was created to help connect workers seeking employment with Alaska companies and businesses.

Teresa Nelson, Director of Alaska's People, says: "We strive to offer streamlined quality employment services based on the understanding that successful recruitment increases productivity, efficiency and profitability." There is no fee for either worker or employer in the Alaska People scheme of things, Nelson says. "While we are set up to promote employment and training opportunities for Alaska Natives and American Indians residing in Alaska, we never turn away anyone who comes to our door."

Through a simple and effective application process, Native people who are seeking employment can quickly find guidance, one-on-one assistance and coaching, and plenty of job options. Likewise, employers in need of additional staffing have access to a database containing more than 5,000 resumes of job hunters, ready to go to work.

Putting Alaskans to Work

"We have been instrumental in placing nearly 1,500 workers so far this year," Nelson states, "and in doing this we have worked with more than 400 separate employer clients." As for workers, Nelson says that Alaska's People regularly helps create resumes, conducts interview coaching and sets up initial interview appointments with Alaska businesses and industries.

One of the key factors to the success of Alaska's People is its central statewide database of employees, which is updated daily. Thousands of workers from all trades and professions are immediately available to go to work. Workers can be placed in any of Alaska's geographic regions. Employers have come to rely on the database as an excellent source of screened, qualified applicants.
