Ben McAdams has been the Mayor of Salt Lake County since 2013. Mayor McAdams pledged to work collaboratively, across party lines, to find efficiencies in County government and to be open and accountable to citizens.

During his tenure as County Mayor, he helped the county become the first in the country to partner with the private sector to offer greater access to high-quality preschool for low-income children. McAdams has emphasized economic development and job growth, partnering with cities to attract business while being a careful steward of taxpayer dollars. He has also supported greater access for businesses and residents to transit, and open space.

McAdams worked with state lawmakers to pass a Convention Hotel bill, which allows for tax credits to a private company to build and maintain a hotel with adequate rooms and convention space: ensuring millions of tourist dollars coming to the state.

McAdams is committed to fixing the 9-1-1 issue. Emergency dispatchers use software programs to see where emergency personnel are located. With that information, they call the closest and most appropriate emergency responder to the scene of an emergency. In the Salt Lake Valley, different software programs are used, limiting dispatchers' views and causing time-wasting transfers. To fix this problem, Mayor McAdams worked with the County Council to fund $1 .3 million to move dispatch centers onto one software program.

Mayor McAdams is using the successful preschool initiative as a model for more "Pay for Success" programs. Private and nonprofit sector partners invest in a program with a desired outcome. Only if that outcome is achieved will the county pay them back.

McAdams attended the University of Utah and Columbia Law School. After Columbia Law School, he worked as a corporate finance attorney with firms in New York and Salt Lake City.
