If you ask Peggy Hunt what she's passionate about, education might be at the top of the list. She loves to share what she's learned from her extensive trial and appellate court experience with others.

Now, as president-elect of the Federal Bar Association - Utah Chapter, she's getting even more opportunities to do just that. She will begin serving a one-year term when current FBA-Utah president Jenifer Tomchak completes her term later this year.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to be an advocate on behalf of the federal courts and the attorneys who appear in them," Hunt says. "The Utah chapter is recognized as one of the best in the FBA organization. I'm excited to work on increasing our membership, publishing a tri-annual newsletter and working with our fantastic program of continuing education."

Hunt's legal resume is extensive. She practices at the Salt Lake City firm of Dorsey & Whitney, where she works on cases involving bankruptcies, receiverships, Ponzi cases and debtor/ creditor rights. As FBA-Utah president, she's looking forward to promoting key education programs in criminal law and governing practices in federal courts. She'll also get national exposure as a member of the governing board for the FBA's Women in Law Conference in Washington, D.C.

"I want to make sure that women attorneys practicing in federal courts have equal opportunities," she says. "It's important that we support all programs that help with the retention of women in the legal profession and law firms."

Hunt inherits an extra responsibility as well. FBA-Utah is hosting the FBA's national meeting on Sept. 9, which is the first time the association has held its confab in Salt Lake City. "It will be a great time to showcase our state," she says. "I love getting to know people from all over the country, so this will be a great experience."
