A former Ohio congressman, a nationally known economist and prestigious member awards highlighted the 2005 Members Summit and Annual Meeting, held June 17 at the Columbus Convention Center.

Former U.S. Rep. John Kasich, R-Columbus, host of Heartland with John Kasich on the Fox News Channel, delivered the Members Summit keynote address. Kasich spoke about how each of us can help make America great.

"People are moving away from what their parents taught them," Kasich said. "There have been serious lapses in values and morals."

Kasich also spoke on the qualities of leadership. "Leadership means walking a lonely road, inspiring others to do great things and achieving a higher purpose."

"Our goal should be to make the world a better place, and leave it a better place. Find your gift and use it to make a difference," Kasich encouraged attendees.

Anthony Chan, Ph.D., managing director and senior economist at JPMorgan Fleming Asset Management, provided an update on economic growth and emerging trends that may impact the future financial market.

"A lot of people are scratching their heads and asking why we haven't been creating that many jobs. It's simple--it's due to faster productivity growth. With faster productivity growth you simply don't need as many bodies. The productivity growth rate has been above the norm the last few years," Chan said.

Ultimately Chan was optimistic. "The economy will do okay. Not as good as last year, but it will do darn good," predicted Chan at the close of his presentation.
