Etch Your Name in Olympic History.

Part of Utah's past will be used to pave the way to the Olympic Legacy Plaza in downtown Salt Lake City. The Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC) for the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 announced in July that sandstone bricks that were originally used in the early 1900s to build roads in downtown Salt Lake will be etched with personalized engravings and set in a picturesque pathway of The Gateway. Personalized etchings are available for a $50 contribution.

The sandstone bricks carry an inscription of up to two lines to honor individuals and special dates, celebrate events, or recognize organizations, with a maximum of 17 characters per line. The Olympic Legacy Plaza commemorates the athletes, officials, staff, volunteers and spectators of the XIX Olympic Winter Games. The Legacy Plaza will feature a park, fountain, and a Wall of Honor recognizing the names of all the volunteers. Pathways throughout The Gateway will also be paved with the commemorative bricks.

"It's a chance to inscribe your name in the Plaza, contribute to the Olympic Winter Games and leave a personal legacy at a permanent city landmark," says Mitt Romney, SLOC president and CEO, "A limited number of sandstone bricks are available so we urge people to act quickly on this unique opportunity."

Three 2002 Games sponsors -- Home Depot, McDonald's and Delta Air Lines -- are assisting in the marketing and selling of the bricks. Order forms are available in their stores and restaurants and at U.S. Olympic Spirit stores. The opportunity to make contributions to the Olympic Brick program concludes July 2001 due to construction of the plaza.
