Paul McCracken, an emeritus member and former Chair of the NBER's Board of Directors, passed away on August 3, 2012 at the age of 96. He was first elected to the NBER's Board of Directors in 1974 as the representative of the American Statistical Association, and was subsequently elected as the representative from the University of Michigan, and then as an at-large member of the board.
