Mickey Hart and Zakir Hussain's Global Drum Project will be offering trance grooves, elegant electronica and hypnotic percussion at UCLA on October 9. The veteran Grateful Dead drummer/ethnomusicologist Mickey Hart and the tabla master Zakir Hussain will display their latest chapter of percussion wonders in this Global Drum Project concert, to be held on Thursday, October 9, at Royce Hall (8 p.m.) on the UCLA campus (in Los Angeles) as part of the UCLA Live 08/09 World Music Series. Taking their spirited explorations where they'd never gone before, the Nigerian talking-drum magician Sikuru Adepoju and the Puerto Rican-born Latín percussion master Giovanni Hidalgo complete this powerful quartet of masterful percussionists.

Hart calls Sikuru Adepoju "the Mozart of the talking drum," which he learned at his father's side during his Western Nigerian childhood. But words can only start to describe the magical and rhythmic ambience that these amazing master drummers generate in their performances. They must be witnessed live. Tickets for this event ate available online at www.uclalive.org, by phone at 310-825-2101, or in person at the UCLA Central Ticket Office (at the southwest corner of the James West Alumni Center) and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Other UCLA Live upcoming concerts include Grammy Award-winning Cape Verdean vocalist Cesaria Evora on October 11th; and Perú's Tania Libertad on October 25th for an evening of Afro-Peruvian roots music, joined by the Portuguese singer Lura.

The Dimelo Records recording artists Charanga Cubana will be performing on Thursday, October 2nd, at The Habana Room, (Exclusive Cigar Aficionados Lounge), 6801 Hollywood Blvd. 3rd Level, Los Angeles, CA. 90028. Super DJ Robby and DJ...
