The Ford Amphitheatre Summer Concert Season opens on June 6. Many different musical genres will resonate at the Ford this summer, spanning the 23-week season, which opens with the City Ballet of Los Angeles on June 6.

"¡Viva México!," Gregorio Luke's multimedia tour of México's muralists is just the beginning of a season-long salute to the treasures of Mexican visual art, dance and music. "Homage to Agustín Lara," the prolific composer of Granada and countless other familiar scores is scheduled for June 13.

The 16th Annual Brazilian Summer Festival takes the stage of the Ford on June 19, headlined by singer Diogo Noguiera and bossa nova pianist Marcos Ariel, plus dancers and capoeira masters.

Local favorites José Rizo's Jazz On the Latin Side All Stars will be bringing Latin jazz to this concert season on August 6.

Composer Manuel Esperón will be honored in an evening show named after his biggest bit, Tequila y Limón, on August 15.

After last year's successful debut, the Ford's Free J.A.M. (Jazzed and Motivated) Sessions offer participants the opportunity to sing, play and dance under the guidance of Ford 2009 artists. There are nine J.A.M. evening sessions, between June 1 and August 24, covering zydeco dance, songwriting workshops with the hottest independent singer/songwriters, Brazilian dance, Do-it-yourself drumming, and SqueezeBox 101; as well as tango, flamenco and bluegrass jamming. The Hollywood Bowl 2009 Concert Series welcomes Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Femi Kuti to the Bowl on Sunday, June 21, together with Philly's first lady of dub-driven pop Santi White. The funky grooves of Raphael Saadiq open the show. Sergio Mendes, Eddie Palmieri and Poncho Sánchez share the bill on July 8 for a sizzling Caribbean/Brazilian party under the stars at the Bowl.

The 31st Annual Playboy Jazz Festival takes over the Hollywood Bowl on the weekend of June 13 & 14, with beadriners such as the Pete Escovedo Orchestra, Esperanza Spaulding, Oscar Hernández & The L.A. Salsa All Stars, Alfredo Rodríguez, King Sunny Adé, Monty Alexander, and Kenny G, among many others.
