In recent years, Latin jazz has been greatly advanced by a generation of young musicians from the island of Puerto Rico who are extending the frontiers of the genre by fusing their indigenous rhythms with cutting edge jazz. On Jazzambia, Paoli Mejias contributes to such evolutionary dynamics by joining forces with fellow islanders like saxophonists Miguel Zenón and Ricardo Pons, cuatrista Christian Nieves, timbalero Tito de (Sracia and drummer Tony Escapa; in addition to various luminaries from outside the island (such as drummer Antonio Sánchez, pianist Luis Perdomo, bassist Hans Glawischnig, and saxophonists Jaleel Shaw and Chris Cheek); ensuring that the scene is set for some Latin jazz exploration of the highest caliber.
