Director of Corporate Relations, Coors Brewing Company

Who can imagine Coors without Colorado? The two are interwoven through memory and place, inseparable to many who call the Rockies home. We at Coors take pride in that. And we understand the responsibility that comes of such a trust. That's why in addition to brewing the finest beer, we've made giving back to the community our business since Adolph Coors founded the company in 1873.

Over time, we've built a reputation as a company that understands that success is measured by more than just the bottom line. Coors was a charter member of the "Two Percent Club," a group of companies that pledge to give two percent of pre-tax profits back to the community. And we strongly believe that by supporting organizations such as the United Way, the American Legion and Volunteers of America, we are enhancing the quality of life for our customers, retailers and employees.

But dollar amounts only tell a small portion of the story. The real tale is in the hours that our employees volunteer of their own time. In 2002, the employees of Coors gave 33,743 hours to myriad causes, such as House of Hope, Hands and Hearts and the Aids Walk. They give of themselves as well. Over the years, our corporate blood drive has provided more than 40,000 units of blood. That's more than 5,000 gallons that have helped up to 150,000 people in need. Perhaps that's why so many third-party groups, organizations and publications consistently rank Coors as a one of the country's premier corporate citizens. One could say that financially, and in terms of donating hours, Coors has an unquenchable thirst for helping people in the community.

But being a citizen goes beyond charity, it's recognizing and supporting worthwhile community endeavors that further enrich our lives. That's why Coors is a major sponsor of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the House of Blues and the Red Rocks Amphitheater. These venues attract the luminaries of the entertainment world, and whether its rap, opera, rock or jazz--they make it possible for our community to experience a rich blend of culture. Additional partnerships with ski resorts, the Pepsi Center and Coors Field further add to the quality of life in Colorado. We strongly believe that such variety is important. Coors is committed to the idea that diversity strengthens our community and our company. We take as much pride in our progressive personnel policies and practices as we do in our track record on community support and corporate social performance. Each year, Coors works closely with national and local minority and women's organizations in support of programs designed to enhance diversity in ou r communities. Our involvement includes initiatives for Hispanics, African Americans, Native Americans, Gays and Lesbians and Asians.

Supporting the community has been a basic tenet of Coors' business philosophy since the company's founding 130 years ago. We have been committed to improving the quality of life of the people who buy our products, the employees who make them, and the communities where we do business. This responsibility has never been taken lightly and will continue to be a cornerstone of the company's dedication to integrity and respect in the way we treat people, our neighbors, our business associates and our environment.

Who can imagine Coors without Colorado? Not us.

With years of experience in the security industry, Michael Adamson, founder, president and CEO of American Pre-Employment Screening Services, Inc. possesses the expertise companies can trust in when it comes to ensuring the quality of new employees. Adamson has tailored the growth of APSSI to offer a comprehensive approach that is unique.

Michael Adamson, founder, president and CEO of American Pre-Employment Screening Services, Inc.

"In this industry, there are three sectors, the local wholesale, the national wholesale and the retail. APSSI is all three. We own five companies that handle all the elements. We are not just a high-volume company. We work with our customers to build them the right program," said Adamson.

Adamson has dedicated his career to the security industry. After three years with the CIA, he dealt with security issues in private industry. In 1995, Adamson founded American Pre-Employment Screening Services, Inc, focusing on the pre-employment screening arena and the wholesale of information. Since then, APSSI has opened offices in Washington, DC. and in Seattle, with plans for expansion to Chicago.

Adamson has seen tremendous growth in the industry since 9-11. "Even though there are more layoffs than hires right now, the in most industries employers are more concerned than ever about the type of person they hire," he said.

In order to meet the growing demand for their services, APSSI purchased e-screening.com in February 2002. The purchase provides a retail product that is geared for human resource departments. "It's a web-based vehicle, that allows companies to search and pre-screen employees," said Adamson.

Offering national coverage, e-screening.com gives employers the opportunity to obtain information from searches of county criminal and civil records, real-time court records, instant credit reports, instant past address history traces, driver's history, federal criminal and civil records, federal bankruptcy, past employment, professional license and education verification, personal reference checks, national wants and warrants, sex offender searches, business credit reports and state level criminal checks.
