Siempre a Punto
Originally founded in 1942 by Ninón Mondejar, Orquesta América was one of the charanga outfits that followed the French-derived traditions and forms of the Cuban "charanga francesa" format. This internationally renowned Cuban charanga was led by the violinist/composer Enrique Jorrín, whose 1953 later composition (La Engañadora) marked the genesis of the chachachá rhythm. This milestone placed Orquesta America as one of the top musical institutions in Cuba, along with Arsenio Rodríguez and Melodías del 40. Throughout its long trajectory, Orquesta América has been a stepping stone for many Cuban luminaries, such as Ignacio Berroa, Félix Reina, Juanito Ramos, Jorge Machado, Ciso Guanche...
