It may seem odd, given the rafts of announced layoffs in recent months, but CFOs polled recently about hiring accounting and finance professionals expected increased hiring in the second quarter. The projected net increase of 8 percent matched that of the previous two quarters.

"Demand for skilled talent is strong, particularly for those individuals with expertise in technology," said Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International, which sponsored the survey. The survey went to 1,400 CFOs around the country, representing a random sample of companies with 20 or more employees.
