Shame on Winn-Dixie

Jacksonville, Florida

On January 5, activists gathered outside Winn-Dixie headquarters to protest the firing of twenty-year employee Peter Oiler allegedly because he cross-dresses. Oiler, a trucker (shown below with his wife, Shirley), filed a federal lawsuit against Winn-Dixie, claiming he was wrongly fired after supervisors learned he sometimes dresses as a woman during his off hours. He is seeking damages for lost wages and emotional distress. Winn-Dixie says it acted legally.
