IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE GREAT RECESSION OF 2007-09, banks in general have taken a reputational hit. Community banks in particularly have been struggling with ways to tout their financial security while also differentiating themselves from Wall Street financial institutions.

The latest example of a community bank trying to contrast itself from Wall Street financiers is Farmers National Bank (assets: $1 billion), Canfield, Ohio.

The bank CEO, John Gulas, made a brief trip to Manhattan earlier this year to shoot footage for a TV commercial entitled "Wall Street to Main Streets" The 30-second ad is currently being broadcast on cable and broadcast TV in the Youngstown, Ohio, area.

In the spot, Gulas is shown amidst street crowds and iconic buildings like the New York Stock Exchange, and then in the more serene surroundings of Canfield...
