New officers took charge at NCSL's Annual Meeting. Illinois Senator Steve Rauschenberger is now NCSL president and Susan Clarke Schaar, clerk of the Virginia Senate, is staff chair.

Senator Rauschenberger, a Republican, accepted the gavel from Maryland Delegate John Hurson, a Democrat. As a bipartisan organization, the position of NCSL president alternates each year between the two major parties.
