After a decade working at a law firm, Paul was fired, allegedly for poor performance. The firing came one week after he complained about a wage violation. In an email, the firm reiterated the firing reason, but then said it would be willing to offer severance pay if he agreed never to sue. Paul rejected the offer and filed suit. (Ferruzzi v.
