Thanks for the interview with Janeane Garofalo (by Elizabeth DiNovella, May issue). I, too, find myself feeling a general malaise and doing a lot of comfort eating and smoking in frustration as I watch a hypocritical Administration bully away our free speech rights.

If there's anything that alleviates those symptoms, it's remaining engaged in the debate. I try to keep on top of my Senators, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, and encourage them to think and act progressively.

Reading Janeane's remarks made me feel a little less alone, and probably saved a big piece of chocolate cake from being devoured.

Garofalo states she is alarmed by the backlash against her First Amendment rights. I believe in freedom of speech, and she is entitled to her opinion. The problem isn't with her beliefs as much as with how she states them. She makes it sound as if people who respect the flag...
