Citations to the GDPR. Citations to the Regulation (EU) 2016/679
on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of
personal data and on the free movement of such data are abbreviated as
“GDPR.”
Examples: GDPR, Article 3(2); GDPR, Recital 155.
Citations to the Privacy Directive. Citations to the Directive 95/46/
EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of October 24, 1995
on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal
data and on the free movement of such data are abbreviated as “Privacy
Directive.”
Examples: Privacy Directive, Article 5; Privacy Directive, Recital 2.
Citations to Article 29 Working Party. Citations to opinions, recom-
mendations, or guidance of the Working Party established under Article 29
of the Privacy Directive are referred to as authored by the Article 29
Working Party and use the number designation provided by that organi-
zation. A complete list of the ofcial guidance provided by the Working
Party as of the date of this publication can be found at Appendix D.
Example: Article 29 Working Party, WP 56: Working Document on
determining the international application of EU data protection law to
personal data processing on the Internet by non-EU based websites
(May 30, 2016).
