Welcome to Volume 36, No. 1, of the Workers' Compensation Quarterly. This issue explores a diverse assortment of topics. In "The Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act and Crossover Issues with California State Workers' Compensation," Juliana Guerriero discusses the ways in which the LHWCA and California's workers' compensation program intersect with and differ from each other. As Ms. Guerriero explains, LHWCA benefits far exceed those under the state Act and it is crucial that we identify crossover cases in order to refer them to experienced counsel.

"Impact of Senate Bill 1127 on Peace Officer Claims," by Brian Hull, details the ways in which SB 1127 enlarges benefits for safety officers, specifically by expanding temporary disability for cancer claims and increasing possible penalty claims relating to the unreasonable denial of claims by safety officers who qualify for presumptions of injury.

Laura Chiyono Rosenthal explains, in "Implicit Bias and the LGBTQI+ Community," that, to interrupt and correct discriminatory behavior, learning the sources of negative bias is crucial. She encourages us to foster inclusivity and provides concrete examples of how to do so.

Ms. Rosenthal's article is particularly timely; the Supreme Court just issued a 6-3 ruling in 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis (June 30, 2023) 600 U.S. ___ in favor of a Colorado website developer, Lorie Smith, who claimed it would be against her Christian faith to make wedding websites for same-sex couples.
