California taxpayers reported a nearly 16 percent increase in adjusted gross income on their 2000 state income tax returns according to Kathleen Connell, state controller and FTB chair. And, select San Francisco Bay Area communities continue to report the highest median incomes in the state.

The statewide median income on all returns was $31,122, an increase of 5.9 percent from 1999's amount. For joint returns, it was $57,979--5.9 percent more than 1999.
