In the June issue, a graphic on page 6 highlights the states that have apologized for slavery. An asterisk notes that while Virginia has apologized, West Virginia has not, implying that West Virginia was a slave state. West Virginia was formed out of the western counties of Virginia as a nonslave state with the blessings of President Lincoln.
