CLF-NH is leading a coalition of roads scholars--five state environmental groups whose goal is to ensure comprehensive planning for NH DOT's proposed widening of Interstate Route 93 (I-93) between Salem and Manchester. Even a DOT-assembled panel has indicated that the widening--from four to eight lanes--could lead to undesired results, projecting that over two decades it would result in 40,000 people moving to surrounding towns. EPA-NH has said that the widening, if not exhaustively planned for, could lead to development of 100,000 acres of land, negatively transforming the character of southern and central New Hampshire.

CLF is advocating a comprehensive mitigation strategy--strongly supported by EPA--to reduce sprawl impacts of the project, preserve large, contiguous parcels of environmentally valuable land, and bring about meaningful public participation.
