I just read "Withholding the Cure" (by N.A. Siegal, September issue), an excellent piece that quite fairly covers both sides of the issue of making life-saving or life-prolonging drugs available relatively inexpensively. My only objection to the article is its title. Since it begins with information about attempts to get Neverapine to HIV-positive mothers and their newborns, a casual reader could get the false impression that there is a cure for AIDS and that it is being withheld. I run an HIV prevention program at a public agency, and I frequently encounter people who think that, because Magic Johnson is doing so...
