Here's a different reason to consider the case for more globalization: increased access to talent. As the workforce in Western economies becomes progressively older, where in the world will we find sufficient young people to replace them? Mainly from Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Indian sub-continent and Asia. And where are the emerging markets that greater globalization provides access to? Same places. Maybe there's a win-win-win here. Companies will need new sources of talent as demographic change begins to bite in the West, and consumers in emerging markets want opportunities for their sons and daughters just as much as their counterparts in developed economies.
