Army Ground Vehicles

* During the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army needed thousands of heavily armored ground vehicles with new sensors and communications equipment. But without a standardized way to network that hardware onto vehicles, the Army relied on the Navy's assistance. The Defense Department has since spearheaded the Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability initiative to develop a framework for integrating command and control, communications and intelligence systems. It also created the Network Integration Evaluations to test out new equipment while increasing the interoperability among tactical systems. Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle

* BAE Systems is currently the only bidder in the Army's armored multi-purpose vehicle program, but the competition is far from over. General Dynamics Land Systems had offered a version of its Stryker wheeled vehicle but pulled out of the competition earlier this year, claiming the service's requirements favor BAE's design, a derivative of the Bradley fighting vehicle.
