TIME OUT

It's that time of year to think about taking a little time out to enjoy Alaska's treasures. We may not have the highways and byways of the Lower 48, but from the tip of the Kenai Peninsula to the rugged haul road of the North Slope we do have a road system with unique lodges, B&Bs, restaurants and adventure travel. We also have dozens of Bush pilots and airliners that would be happy to do the honors of taking you and your loved ones or you and your colleague away from the city, away from the office, away from the daily grind, cell phones and computers into rural spots unseen by most in the state.

For more than a decade we have reported on fun activities around the state in our "Alaska This Month" and Event Calendar" columns. Starting next month, we will feature a new column, "Executive Getaways," which will describe in detail a perfect place to drive or fly to for relaxation or recreation. Watch for it. It's sure to be a popular column.

VIEW FROM THE TOP

Another new column premiering next month is "View From the Top," which will feature the words of presidents and CEOs of companies large and small in a quick, easy-to-read Q&A style. This is designed for them to tell of their goals, their trade secrets, their routes to achievement. We can learn a lot by reading about others' successes and we hope this will be a column our readers look forward to month after month, year after year.
