Colorado High School Mock Trial Regional Tournaments

Throughout February, more than 115 high school teams across Colorado competed in the Colorado High School Mock Trial Regional Tournaments, funded by die CBA Litigation Section and the Colorado Bar Foundation. The events were facilitated through the assistance of several regional coordinators: Jennifer Melton from the 1st Judicial District; Amy Petri Beard from Adams/Broomfield; Laura Ruth from Boulder County; Donna Stewart and Teresa Wilkins from Douglas County; Jason Downie and Stevie Bailey from Southern Colorado; Carolyn Gravit from Denver; Kim Bockenstedt from Arapahoe County; Stacey Aurzada, Tim Brynteson, Linda Connors, and Sunita Sharma from Northern Colorado; and Hon. Lance Timbreza and William M. Kane from Western Slope. Winning teams went on to compete in the Mock Trial State Tournament on March 9-10 in Greeley.

Justice For All Ball

The Boulder County Bar Association held its annual Justice For All Ball on February 24 at The Studio (Boulder). The event featured a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres and beverages, and live music and dancing led by the Diamond Orchestra. Proceeds benefited Colorado Legal Services.

Catholic Lawyers Guild Award

On February 26, the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Colorado recognized Bonnie Schriner with a lifetime achievement award for "outstanding lifetime contributions to religion, profession, and country." Schriner, whose practice focuses on domestic relations, civil and commercial mediation, arbitration, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, was present to accept the award and give a speech.

CBA-CLE Cannabis Symposium

It was a packed house on February 21 for the 2018 Cannabis Symposium, held at the CBA-CLE offices in Denver. Complicated and evolving topics were discussed, including banking regulations, legislative and regulatory updates, case law, and the federal landscape. The keynote speaker was Robert Troyer, Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado, who spoke on the federal enforcement landscape. Other presenters included Jim Burack from the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division; Wanda James, the first African American woman in Colorado to own a dispensary; and Bob Hoban, one of the leading commercial cannabis...
