New York Chapter co-hosts the 11th annual TEI-LB&I financial services industry conference.

On October 13, TEI's New York Chapter and the Internal Revenue Service's Large Business & International Division co-sponsored the 11th Annual TEI-LB&I Financial Services Industry Conference. The conference featured key personnel from LB&I, distinguished practitioners from accounting and law firms, and an engaged group of moderators from the New York Chapter.

Raymond J. Gwydir, New York Chapter President, opened the conference by thanking the LB&I personnel for their participation as well as for the IRS's hospitality in hosting the event. Benjamin R. Shreck, TEI Tax Counsel, commended LB&I and the New York Chapter for putting together such a strong conference. Walter Harris, LB&I Financial Services Industry Director and co-host of the conference, discussed key issues within LB&I. In particular, Mr. Harris noted that the IRS is moving away from the tiering process for coordinating issues.

A panel discussion regarding LB&I's Compliance and Resolution Tools followed. The session featured Paul Denard, LB&I Deputy Commissioner (Operations); Lavena Williams, acting LB&I Director Pre-Filing & Technical Guidance; and Jolanta Sander, acting LB&I Director, Field Operations (Financial Services, Manhattan). The session was moderated by TEI members Tom Wharton and Lisa Cappell. The panel discussed the implementation and use of Schedule UTP by the IRS's National Office and field personnel, as well as the use of IRS Industry Practice Groups to vet and set priorities in respect of issues faced by businesses in a particular sector.
