Welcome to the first all-digital issue of Information Management. The phrase "out with the old, in with the new" is given lots of play this time of year, and we can apply it to a certain degree here. While we no longer mass produce a printed version of the magazine, the digital product does retain the features you've grown accustomed to over the years. It has a responsive design that enables you to read it easily on virtually any device, and its layout retains the look and feel of a printed magazine.

"Content is king" is the kind of catch-phrase used by those who provide news and journalism online. We agree that the quality of the content is supremely important, and so this issue continues our emphasis on providing the news, insights, and solutions that can make a positive difference in your organizations and careers.

Careers in records and information management (RIM), in fact, are in jeopardy, says Donald C. Force, Ph.D., in "A Profession in Peril." His article spells out the problems with the demographics: the median age of RIM professionals is approaching 60, and there is a dearth of young professionals to replace them. Force points out the factors behind this peril and suggests ways to improve the outlook.

Brent Gatewood, CRM, introduces to these pages the concept of "the fog." His article, "At the Edge of the Cloud: The Fog," centers on fog computing, which Cisco defines as "a new model to ease wireless data transfer to distributed devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) network."
