The Section 809 Panel--created by Congress in the fiscal year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act--is on a two-year mission to find ways to improve Pentagon acquisition.

It released the first of three reports at the end of January, with the next installment coming in June

David A. Drabkin, one of the panel's 17 commissioners, gave National Defense a preview of Volume II, which will focus on restructuring the military's program executive offices.
