On December 13, 2011, TEI's New Orleans Chapter held a liaison meeting with the Louisiana Department of Revenue. Representing the Department were the Secretary, Cynthia Bridges, and her Deputy Assistant Secretary, Gary Matherne. Ms. Bridges holds the distinction of serving as head of the Louisiana Department of Revenue under three Governors, which is unprecedented in the State's history.

Secretary Bridges regularly attends meetings with the New Orleans Chapter and brings very useful and substantive presentations of great interest to the Chapter members. Ms. Bridges also brings with her at least one of her assistants with the credentials and responsibilities to also provide more useful information and guidance to these meetings. At this meeting, Mr. Matherne gave a very thorough presentation on the Department's technological advances, illustrating their efficiencies and cost savings to both business taxpayers in their reporting and tax payment functions as well as providing the state with a more thorough and efficient tax administration and collection.

On December 1, the New Orleans Chapter hosted an all-day seminar at the Lindy C. Boggs International Conference Center on the campus of the University of New Orleans Lakefront Campus. The seminar was entitled "2012: A New Year: A Brave New Tax World," and was moderated very skillfully for the Chapter by Eli Dicker, TEI's Chief Tax Counsel.
