New long-term hospital opens doors.

Alaska's first Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) invited dignitaries, physicians, staff and those involved in the building's construction for a first look at Anchorage's new $24 million, 60-bed hospital.

St. Elias Specialty Hospital-located at 4800 Cordova St. (between the Old Seward Highway and C Street, and Tudor Road and International Airport Road, across the street from Providence Extended Care Center) began serving patients who need extended hospital-level care for multiple or complex medical conditions.

The 65,000-square-foot hospital is expected to provide 100 additional jobs in Anchorage and will offer a new continuum of care for Alaskans statewide. Hospitals from Fairbanks and the Mat-Su Valley to Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula will now have an option to move high-level, complex patients from intensive care units to a hospital environment better suited for extended-stay hospital...
