On Friday, November 14, 2008, the New Jersey Chapter held its Full Day Fall Seminar at the Meadow Wood Manor in Randolph, New Jersey. The meeting was the Chapter's first at this new location. The Manor boasts spacious, high-ceiling seminar rooms and an expansive dining room overlooking verandas and tailored lawns. Organizers were impressed with the new venue, as was membership, with over 170 tax executives in attendance. Ernst & Young, continuing its support for the Chapter, was the primary sponsor. Other sponsors were CCH, Corptax, Ducharme McMillen, Planitax, and WTAS.

In the state area, compliance professionals, fresh from finalizing Texas margin returns, warmed to a strong state and local program. From Ernst & Young, Brian Scanlon, Jason Zorfas, and Kathy Burns presented on Trends in Combined Reporting, while Frank Guerino and Rebecca Truelove educated membership on Indirect Taxes. Augmenting Ernst & Young's expertise, Theodore Bots and Scott Brandman of Baker & McKenzie co-presented two sessions: State Tax Issues of M&A, and Related Party Transactions. Wrapping up the state program for E&Y, James Venere and Herman Stigliano of KPMG presented a Legislative Update.

Other speakers for Ernst & Young were Susan Grais, Brendan Cox and Hindy Stern (Hot Topics in Capitalization); Murray Gordon and Stephen Curtis (Transfer Pricing); John Griffin and Lee Holt (Quantitative International Planning); Peter Rogers (FAS 141R and 160); and Martin Fiore (Learning to Speak IFRS).

Complementing Ernst & Young's effort, in the federal and international area, were distinguished presenters, including representatives from the IRS. For the Service, Lavena Williams (Director of Field Operations-East), Robert Hatler (Territory Manager), and returning speaker John Mezquita (Team Manager), discussed CAP and other IRS Initiatives. CAP is a popular program that continues to attract new participants. Glenn Geffner and Terry Coppinger (Deloitte Tax) discussed information reporting, Paul Dougherty and Jay Graham (Amper, Politziner & Mattia) tackled corporate reorganizations, Charles Brezak and...
