I am responding to Ruth Conniff's recent article ("The Peace Candidate," April issue). Dennis Kucinich is a much-needed voice in politics and for the anti-war movement.

Overall, it was a good article, but I do take issue with your nitpicking about him being pro-life. Kucinich is pro-life on all issues, from abortion to war. Life is precious no matter what.

Now, before you take me as a rightwing fundie, let me assure you that, though I do agree with the Catholic Church's pro-life view, it does not make me vote Republican. Why? Because the Republican policy is hypocritical. The second a baby comes out of a womb, Republicans suddenly take a hands-off policy. From cutting back on day care for working mothers to restricting welfare and hindering the schools, all in the name of lower taxes, the Republicans are an abomination.

The Democratic Party needs to reach out more to the center. The platform needs to deemphasize abortion to make it the last resort, not illegal...
