New consumers education brochure from ABA helps banks fight elder financial abuse.

ABA HAS LAUNCHED A NEW CONSUMER EDUCATION BROCHURE designed to protect and educate older bank customers against financial abuse.

"Each year hundreds of thousands of older people are victims of financial abuse," explains Laura Fisher executive director of the ABA Education Foundation. "In many cases, a bank employee may be the only witness. We hope banks will use this resource to educate families and alert elderly customers who are unaware that they are being victimized."

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, elders throughout the United States lose an estimated $2.6 billion or more annually due to elder financial abuse and exploitation. The new brochure, written and vetted by ABA staff experts, includes the most current information available on how to prevent elder abuse.
