NDIA Washington Chapter Raises 37K for USO.

Each year, the National Defense Industrial Association's Washington Chapter hosts a fund-raising golf outing for the United Service Organizations (USO). This year's event was scheduled for September 24, 2001. However, since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, security has been tightened at every U.S. military installation and the event was postponed, because it was set to take place at Andrews Air Force Base, in Maryland.

Instead of canceling the registrations and refunding the fees for the golf tournament, Ed Swallow, NDIA Washington Chapter member and chair of the event, offered an opportunity for the participating companies and individuals to donate their registration fees to the USO outright. Thirty-nine companies decided to do so, and some companies who had not registered for the golf outing sent checks. "It is expected that more than $35,000 will be raised for the USO," said Swallow.
