Matthew E. Kahn is a Research Associate in the NBER's Program on Environmental and Energy Economics. He is also a Professor in the Institute of the Environment and the Departments of Economics and Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Kahn holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Hamilton College and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago. Before joining the UCLA faculty in January 2007, he taught at Columbia University and at Tufts University's Fletcher School. He also has served as a Visiting Professor at Harvard University and Stanford University.
