Chad Jones is a Research Associate in the NBER's Program on Economic Fluctuations and Growth and the STANCO 25 Professor of Economics at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from MIT in 1993 and his A.B. in Economics from Harvard University in 1989.

After teaching at Stanford from 1993-2001, Jones was a member of the economics faculty at the University of California, Berkeley from 2001 to 2008. He returned to Stanford in 2008.
