The sixth annual NBER-CCER Conference on China and the World Economy; jointly sponsored by the National Bureau of Economic Research and the China Center for Economic Research at Beijing University, took place in Beijing on July 1-3. When opening the meeting, NBER President Martin Feldstein of Harvard University noted that in the eight years since the first NBER-CCER meeting, China's GDP has doubled.

At this conference, the discussion topics were: inflation, historically and as a risk for China; exchange rates and purchasing power parity; public finance, social security, and pensions; labor and social protection; bank regulation and capital flows; environmental concerns; the role of multinationals in China; and financial sector reforms.
