The 40-year-old National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) intern who pied guilty to stealing 164 Civil War documents from the NARA branch in Philadelphia has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and fined $3,000 for his actions.

Denning McTague, a book dealer who worked as an unpaid intern while completing his master's degree, said he lifted the historical documents using nothing more than a legal pad and a backpack.

According to an Associated Press (AP) report, the 164 stolen documents include the War Department's announcement to the troops of President Abraham Lincoln's death, an 1860 letter from famed cavalryman J.E.B. Stuart, and an 1864 appeal for better pay from a group of Philadelphia women pressed...
