Can school food get any worse? Apparently, yes.

The Agriculture Department wants to loosen standards for preventing salmonella poisoning in the ground beef used for school lunches. Since June, the department has required that the meat it buys for schools be free of salmonella, a bacterium that killed 600 people last year.
